Hoo, Hoo Got to Check Out Owl Pellets??

Some of the 4th graders worked really hard to finish up what we were working on and got to do an extra activity! I can't say that all of them enjoyed it, though! We discussed raptors, and specifically owls. We learned about their internal digestive system and how the regurgitate the parts of animals that they can't digest, This comes back up in a nicely packed pellet! I gave the students owl pellets from Auburn University's Raptor Center that had been sanitized and disinfected. The students got to break them open and discover all the cool parts of animals that the owl couldn't digest! How cool!

Treanna found a really large rat skull, complete with teeth!

Noah and Brody are trying hard to find all the bones in all the fur!

Dalton, Brody, and Noah are working hard on separating their owl pellets!

Jayden really wasn't sure this was the best activity!

Caden and Eric are cleaning bones they found!

Look at those broken up owl pellets!

Treanna, Ashlyn, Libby, and Logan enjoyed dissecting owl pellets!
