JEKYLL ISLAND 2014!!!

Check out some of the super cool things we did and learned about at Jekyll Island!!

This is the Maritime Forest! Spanish moss is hanging everywhere!
We even had to walk the plank to get through swampy areas!

This was actually a hill we had to climb.

There were saw-toothed palms that grew close to the ground.

The kids couldn't believe there was a forest like this right next to the beach!

The Grandfather Oak is a great climbing tree!

At the Georgia Sea Turtle Center!!!!!

This turtle is almost ready to be released back into the wild!

This sea turtle had damage to its shell.

They added this to its shell to help hold it together!

This sea turtle had an issue that made it so it could only swim head down!
Not good since they breath air!

They added a weight to the back of its shell to help the turtle even out and learn to swim again!

He got his head up now!

I think he is going to be okay!

This Loggerhead sea turtle had some serious damage to its shell!

Here's a closer look!

This sea turtle was shy! He was paralyzed in his back flippers.
He was learning to swim again!

Say hello to Glory!!

She is just a hatchling!!

Look at her go!!!

Zeus and Athena, the baby alligators!

This is a King snake. They eat venomous snakes!

A green tree frog!

A gopher tortoise! They burrow tunnels! They are Georgia's state reptile!

The loggerhead sea turtle housed at Jekyll Isalnd!

Isn't it cute??? Save the sea turtles!!

Learning about reptiles and amphibians in herpetology!

A yellow-bellied slider!

The boys have long middle claws that they wiggle for the ladies!!

The girls liked the turtle!

Walter, the snake, was a little different!!
Jacyn was shocked!

Jacyn liked Walter once she got introduced! LaTaevia is still not sure!

Laci and Kailey are waiting their turn!

Laci couldn't believe she was touching a real snake!

Kailey thought it was pretty cool, too!

We got Camryn and her mom to touch the snake!!

Kaleb had no issues handling Walter!!

Gavin thought the belly felt neat!!

Can you believe we got Hattie to touch Walter???

Twice!!!!

Anaiya was really in awe!!

It may look like a snake, but it's really a glass lizard! They don't have legs!

Call it a lizard and they are more willing to touch it!

This was right before Camryn dropped it! Don't worry, it was fine!

An American alligator!

It would grunt for its mama!

This is Hattie's hand petting the alligator!!

Gavin liked the alligator better than the snake!

Kailey and Laci thought the alligator was cool!

The baby alligator was grunting!

LaTaevia and Jacyn liked the gator, too!

The North End beach! Way different than the South end, or most beaches!!

We love how the trees are petrified and laid out on the beach!!

The roots are even out of the sand!

Absolutely beautiful!!

They are a fallen, petrified forest!

Wind blown!

They may eventually be washed out to sea!

So cool!!

Can you find the alligator's head?? This one was not a baby!!

How about here?

Dissecting dogfish sharks!
These poor guys were caught in fishing nets and didn't survive!

Tyrun, Kaleb, and Gavin look a little unsure!

LaTaevia, Laci, and Kailey are thrilled!!

Trinity and Jada are ready to get started!

Trinity and Kailey are digging in!!

Jada and LaTaevia needed a little help making the first cut!

The parents jumped right in too!

Gavin, Kaleb, and Tyrun are getting into the dissection now!

Trinity and Laci are showing off the liver!

Ximarie, Jada, McKay, LaTaevia, Trinity, and Kailey may be future surgeons!

These girls look way to happy about this!

The stomach and intestines have been removed!

We found whole fish in the stomach of this shark!

Everyone gather around! There is something cool inside this shark!

What did we find??

This shark had several eggs!

Along with six babies!

That's pretty cool!!

McKay wants to see them up close!

So do Gavin, Kaleb, and Tyrun!

LaTaevia can always pause to pose!

Nice baby shark, girls!!
