Dive Team!!

The Chambers County Sheriff's Department's Dive Team came to Huguley Elementary to treat our 4th graders who are studying oceanography! Major Stewart and Captain Fuller explained what they do and how they are certified for the dive team. The Dive Team went over the equipment that is used on various dives in fresh and salt water. Major Stewart and Captain Fuller gave a PowerPoint presentation that included videos and pictures of some of their many dives. They discussed Boyle's Law, neutral buoyancy, and pressure with the students. The students were able to ask questions and get a close up look at some of the gear!

The students learned about underwater slates for taking notes!

They listened intently!

The dive trailer was set up with all the equipment used for dives!

Captain Fuller discussed how they are able to communicate with their specialized masks!

The breathing regulators are very important!

The main gear was presented outside of the trailer for the students!

The students were very interested!

They inched closer and closer!

Major Stewart was amused by Captain Fuller!

Time to put Major Stewart to work!

This dry suit keeps them warm and dry even in freezing temperatures!

The students had a lot of questions!

They explained how the suit has regulators!

This suit was used last February to dive during the snow we received that month!

They wanted in the trailer!

Some of what is found on dives was explained!
Including this!

Major Stewart did a great job presenting!

They showed a PowerPoint presentation!

All of the 4th graders were very interested in diving!

That's a big fish Major Stewart is talking about!

More questions!

The underwater pictures were really cool!

Even more questions!

I think we may have some future divers!

Captain Fuller did a great job manning the computer!

I think they would have asked one hundred more questions if we let them!
